Why we love it
It froths whatever you put it in — whole milk, half and half, oat, almond, soy — because it is agitating the milk rather than heating it to a programme, which is exactly why plant milks give it no trouble where automatic frothers hedge. You warm the milk yourself and whisk for twenty seconds. It also whisks matcha better than a fork and mixes protein powder without a shaker, which is why it ends up staying in the drawer.
Pros
- Works with oat, almond and soy as readily as dairy
- Froths directly in the mug — nothing extra to wash
- Doubles as a matcha whisk and a protein mixer
- Costs a fraction of any powered frother
- Takes AA batteries, so there is nothing to charge
Cons
- You heat the milk yourself — it only whisks
- Foam is airy rather than the dense microfoam latte art needs
- Battery powered, so it fades before it dies
- Splashes if you start it above the surface
